One dead, five injured after the ECSU campus shooting

Elizabeth City, NC (Witn) – A shootout leaves a dead and five injuries who, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, were brought to a local medical center in ECSU early Sunday morning.

The SBI and ECSU police examine a shootout that took place on the campus on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., and according to SBI, they are still present on the scene.

The university celebrated the Viking on campus this weekend. An event called Yardfest started yesterday at 8:30 p.m.

Witn spoke to a woman who was at the event and said she heard shots out.

Another student Witn said that she hid under a table when the air of the balls flew past her.

Many other students shared their experiences.

“I heard the shots through my window and through the walls,” said Mark Hurlbut. “To be honest, the campus only did 20 to 30 minutes after May 20th to 30th after it had happened. I didn’t think anything about it, but then it finally clicked. This happened right in front of my door.”

Zion Upchurch says he is emotional.

“I was going shortly before all of this, but I had heard the shots from my dormitory, and then I had received a call that said that some people had been shot, and I just tried to find out who did it,” he said. “I feel sad because the person who has died doesn’t even go here, so it just doesn’t make sense.

In a Facebook post, they said: “The university is deeply sad about this senseless action. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and all members of the Viking community affected by this tragedy.”

The police of Elizabeth City, the office of the Sherreif of Pasquotank County Sherreuff and the Camden County Sherreif office also examine the shootout overnight.

According to the university, the ECSU consulting services will be available from Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center.
