One state has fewer single-mother households than Idaho, data shows

Being a single parent is one of the harshest human realities there is. Single parenthood statistics vary across the country, and the two states in America with the lowest number of single-parent households are both in the western United States.

I know what it feels like to be a single parent. I parented alone for several years shortly after my daughter was born in 2001, and I have the utmost respect for the mothers and fathers out there who are raising their children with little to no help.

In such situations, it is common for parents to juggle childcare and multiple jobs, and these teenagers, men and women often require government assistance to make ends meet.

Certain states support single parents more than others. Louisiana (23 percent) and Mississippi (24 percent) have the highest number of single-mother households in the U.S., according to recently released information Reddit. South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama also have overall scores that are well above average compared to other states.
