Opinion: In deep blue jersey, President Trump has the authority to select the next governor

OPINION

It is an eye -opening political reality: in one of the bluish states of the Union, in which the Democrats have checked almost all government levels for decades, the most powerful personality of the Republican primary school for governor is not in Trenton or on the ballot paper, but in the white house. Yes! President Trump’s confirmation will decide who will nominate the Republican in New Jersey for the governor this year.

Two leading competitors, former MP Jack Ciattarelli and the popular radio presenter Bill Spadera, fight for nomination. But what is even more important, they are fighting for a man’s consent. Trump’s popularity among republican voters remains in a blue state like New Jersey Himmelhoch, and both campaigns understand what that means. A confirmation of the former president could dramatically change the trajectory of the race and use the estimated 1.96 million Maga votes!

It is particularly noteworthy how the governor’s racial dynamics have shifted, especially for Ciattarelli, who spent years and two previous election cycles in order to distance themselves from Trump to address the moderations of New Jersey and independent. In his governor run of 2021, Ciattarelli projected a traditional Republican image that shit in front of Trump. But this year he committed himself to Trump World, tried to redesign his brand and even spend millions to say that his opponent is not sufficiently aligned with the former president. It is a sharp pivot and it has not been unnoticed.

In contrast, Spadea has built up his political person directly around the populist energy that the Republican party redesigned during and after Trump’s presidency. This contrast has become a central tension in the breed: authenticity versus reinvention, basic complaint against party leaders, establishment versus populism.

Of course, every campaign is more than just branding. Both candidates are running in terms of content: Immigration, taxes, parental rights, crime, etc. It is painfully clear that Trump’s confirmation or lack of the game card is the game card. In an expensive, high priority regulations, all consultants, mailers and media purchases could be outdated by a single contribution to social truth.

So the 47th president remains. Trump does not have to dominate the news cycle in New Jersey to dominate the race. Everything he has to do is to choose. The question now is whether he will do it. Trump is said to be contradictory advice: some insiders and highly paid consultants urge him to keep out of the New Jersey race. But if he wants to maximize the Republican opportunities in a state in which nationwide campaigns are already a hard struggle, the right step can be to take the primary school. A confirmation of the president could consolidate the support at an early stage and give the GOP a real shot to increase a credible challenge in the general elections against what will undoubtedly be an impressive democratic opponent.

With all the talk that New Jersey is uncertain for Republicans, the truth that it happened twice before 2010 and 2014 is Chris Christie, a pronounced critic of Trump. And in this perhaps one -sided and volatile political climate it could happen again. But more than just a boat load can take money and a good campaign team. It will require the Kingmaker’s blessing.

Mr President, please make a choice now.
