Package theft in Yonkers: Woman in Santa hat, 2 masked men charged with package theft in New York

YONKERS, New York (WABC) — A woman wearing a Santa hat and two masked men were arrested last month in Yonkers for allegedly stealing packages.

Police responded to the area of ​​219 Bronx River Road around 9 a.m. on November 23 for reports of three suspicious people.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspects attempting to hide behind a nearby vehicle. As they spoke with the suspects, they noticed several opened Amazon packages whose contents had been removed.

It was later discovered that the suspects had taken the packages from the lobby of a building at 345 Bronx River Road.

They were later identified as 41-year-old Adriana Torres, 42-year-old Manuel Ortiz and 48-year-old Vladymir Campos.

All three suspects were charged with petty theft, criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

Police are offering tips to the public to ensure packages aren’t stolen during the holiday season:

• Have packages delivered to where you are rather than where you are not, such as the office or workplace.

• Use tracking numbers and delivery notifications.

• Ask family members or trusted neighbors to accept deliveries

• Ask to place packages in a less conspicuous location.

• Schedule packages when someone is home.

• If possible, request a signature upon delivery.

• Install a smart security camera on your front door.

• Use the locker service or storage of packages in delivery centers.

• Be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles or people in your neighborhood.
