Parents at Scenic Elementary have launched a plan to create a tuition-free public charter school called Scenic View. On Tuesday, they sent a letter of intent for the new school to School District 51.

“We hope to work with them to make this school available to all members of the community,” said Josh Worth, a parent of a Scenic Elementary student.

These parents advocate that the new school continue the culture and educational practices that have made Scenic Elementary what it is. “We believe Scenic is something special that we can offer other children,” Worth said.

It’s all still a work in progress. The parents behind the proposal would like to use the current Scenic Elementary School building for this plan, but are also considering other locations. They plan to submit a formal charter school application to the school district soon. “Our biggest goal is to work with D51,” said Worth.

The people who are committed to this want to open a school by autumn 2025. In the meantime, the final details are being clarified, such as the financial costs.

We reached out to the school district for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publishing this article.
