Patriots’ skills guru won’t return in 2025 (Report)

A respected Patriots assistant is leaving in 2025.

Joe Kim, director of skills development, will not be back next season, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Kim is a pass rush guru with extensive combat sports experience and has been with the Patriots since 2018.

“I’ve only had positive experiences with the Patriots,” Kim told Reiss. “The time is ripe for a new challenge.”

Kim entered the league with Bill Belichick’s Browns in 1992 and has worked with 11 different NFL teams, according to his website. He is a 7th Dan black belt in Taekwondo.

“We face our opponents. Whenever we fight and carry out our combat operations, we are always facing our opponents,” Kim told Cleveland.com in 2016. “We have to control both hands, not just one. My philosophy has always been: “Let us win in the fight against our opponent and face our opponent.”

Patriots defense attorneys have talked a lot about Kim over the years, including Trey Flowers, who explained the guru’s ability to get things straight ahead of a strong 2018 season.

“He’s definitely someone who knows the game very well as far as pass rush, techniques and fundamental things,” Flowers said in the summer of 2018. “It’s something that probably hasn’t been looked at as closely as it is in breaks down the individual steps.” step by step. Maybe you did, but you didn’t focus or pay attention to it.

“Now you focus on it and pay attention to it, and now you know that the reason you’re doing it is because you have your body in a certain position and things like that.”

However, New England struggled with the pass rush in 2024, finishing last in the league with 28 sacks.
