Penn Yan Man leads police in pursuit before claiming car was stolen – Finger Lakes Daily News

A Penn Yan man is facing charges in connection with a chase he conducted in the Yates County village by local police.

On November 25, John Cappelletti of Penn Yan PD was seen driving recklessly on Seneca Street while attempting to make a traffic stop. The officer said Cappelletti failed to comply and led authorities on a short chase to his home on Lawrence Street, where he parked the car and fled on foot. Officers identified the driver as Cappelletti, who police said showed up at their office the next day and reported his car had been stolen.

The 28-year-old was charged with unlawful fleeing and reckless driving after an investigation revealed the alleged theft did not occur.

Cappelletti was released on traffic and appearance tickets to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.

The fact that a defendant is accused of a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
