Piers Morgan hits out at Taylor Lorenz for feeling ‘joy’ over healthcare CEO’s murder

Former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz angrily told Piers Morgan during his show Monday that she felt “joy” when UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed in New York City.

“I believe in the sanctity of life and I think that’s why, like so many other Americans, I unfortunately felt joy,” Lorenz told Morgan, who was taken aback by her response. “Maybe not joy, but certainly not empathy.”

Thompson was shot Wednesday outside the Midtown Hilton Hotel. Authorities arrested a suspect at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday.

“How could that make you happy?” Morgan asked. “This guy is a husband, he’s a father, and he was shot in the middle of Manhattan. Why does this make you happy?”

“This also applies to the tens of thousands of Americans he murdered!” said Lorenz. “The same goes for the tens of thousands of Americans, innocent Americans, who have died because greedy health insurance executives like this pushed through policies that deny care to the most vulnerable people, and I am among the many millions of Americans who have been watching the people. “Those I care about are suffering and in some cases dying due to lack of health care.”

Morgan asked if every health care executive deserves to die, and Lorenz responded, “No.” After Thompson’s death, Lorenz wrote on social media: “And people are wondering why we want these leaders dead.”

“Well, why not? Why are you laughing? You seem to find the whole thing hilarious. A guy was murdered on the street. I don’t think it’s funny at all,” Morgan said.

Lorenz emphasized that she had retracted her statement about joy over the murder and said it was the wrong word.

“It feels like justice in this system when someone responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans suffers the same fate as tens of thousands of Americans,” Lorenz added.

Tomi Lahren was also at the podium and said Lorenz had gone too far when she said she had no sympathy for Thompson. Lorenz laughed at Lahren’s answer.

“Taylor, I don’t mean to be rude, but why the hell are you laughing all the time?” Morgan said. “I don’t understand it. I’m sorry, excuse my language, but honestly I think it’s incredible! What are you laughing about?”

“I laugh at Tomi’s insane misrepresentation of why people are angry,” Lorenz said. “The majority of America agrees on this. We do not believe that this health care system that is once again murdering thousands of innocent Americans who, by the way, also have families, also have children. These people are being killed by us.” And I agree that we shouldn’t necessarily shoot people on the street.
