Pirates use a balanced scoring attack to defeat NC A&T 93-69

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – CJ Walker scored a team-high 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting as East Carolina used a scoring attack to defeat NC A&T 93-69 on Friday night at Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum.

Cam Hayes posted his best performance in a Pirates uniform with a season-high 20 points to go, along with six assists and five rebounds. RJ Felton 15 points added and Jordan Riley scored 11 points, rounding out ECU’s scoring tally in the double digits. The Pirates (7:1) were also efficient on offense with 23 assists and only nine turnovers.

Ryan Forrest scored a game-high 25 points to lead NC A&T (3-4).

After back-to-back three-pointers from Riley and Hayes, ECU took an early 11-4 lead and extended their lead to as many as 11 after one Yann Farell The three-pointer made the score 21-10 with 11:28 left in the first half. The Aggies would cut the Pirates’ lead to five with a 9-5 surge and ECU’s hot start would evaporate as the Pirates made just two of the six shots in that span.

After A&T cut the lead to five again, ECU made its final four shots to end the half, capped by a stunning three-pointer from Felton, giving the Pirates a 44-33 lead at halftime.

NC A&T would get within eight points early in the second half, but the Pirates would go on a 13-4 run to extend their lead back to double digits. ECU’s lead increased to 24 after a highlight alley-oop dunk Jayshayne Woodard and the Pirates would improve by as many as 33 en route to their seventh win of the season.
