Pitcher in negotiations with Cubs ends in retirement

Almost three weeks ago, the veteran start -up jug Lance Lynn reported in contract negotiations with the Cubs, according to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, in contract negotiations. Well, maybe at some point we will find out how real these conversations were, but at the moment it looks like Bob had pulled a bob because Lynn announced his retirement.

The 37-year-old campaigned for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024 and actually had a nice bounce back season after a few major regressions in 2023. Lynn achieved an ERA of 3.84 Era in 23 starts and according to Nightengale the Cubs were interested in signing it. Nothing came out of it. The Cubs named Ben Brown as No. 5 starters of the team to start the season while Colin Rea was laid in the Bullpen.

It really never made much sense to bring Lynn for the Cubs.

It turned out that either there was no great interest in Lynn in the league in the league or that he just didn’t find a good match. After his MLB debut in 2011, Lynn calls it a career.

The right -hander achieved a 3.74 ERA in 2,006.1 Innerings. Lynn was a two-time all-star, won a ring with the cardinals in 2011 and threw up six teams in his 13-year MLB career.

(Previous update)

The only way that makes sense from a distance is when it turns out that someone else on the pitching personnel suffered an injury that has not yet been published or Javier Assad had a setback that returned from his weird stress. Apart from that, I have no idea why the Cubs seriously consider signing Lance Lynn.

Last week there was a report in athletics that the Cubs Lynn kept an eye on the right-hand starter Kyle Gibson. Well, it turns out that the Cubs were interested, because according to Bob Nights agals from USA Today, the Cubs are now actively negotiated to sign Lynn.

To be honest, what is the most annoying for me in this recent development is that the cubs, when signed Lynn, will allegedly be an MLB deal. Listen, I will probably not like Lynn’s addition, no matter what happens, but at least if it were a small league contract, there would be no guarantee that he would be on the active squad.

An MLB deal means that Lynn would automatically be on the 40 man and bumps someone in the minute in which he signed.

The 37 -year -old Lynn was in 2024 for the St. Louis Cardinals. Here is the thing, it is not as if Lynn was terrible or bad, he was quite solid and released a 3.84 ERA in 117.1 Innerings. Lynn landed a knee injury in summer and lowered his season on 23 starts.

And it is certainly a good thing to add more pitching depth. But the signing of Lynn and the guarantee for Innings would not sit well with me if it means that he takes an opportunity for people like Jordan Wicks or Ben Brown. Assad could be ready at some point in April, so would he only hold on to Triple-A?

By the way, I think it would not necessarily mean to pursue Lynn that he would be at the opening squad at the end of March and not exactly sure how ready Lynn is currently, so he needs a few additional weeks to build on the hill. We will see what comes from this rumored persecution.
