Seven minutes after bullets were fired into a home on Nov. 22, police officers from Suwanee and Duluth arrived in the neighborhood on Baxley Village Trail. Nicole Winds-Clemons, 45, died while standing in her kitchen.

“Both of you, keep your hands right where they are,” an officer can be heard telling Lessington in the video.

Lessington obeyed and told police, “Please don’t shoot me.”

Police said a gun was found on the floorboard near Lessington.

“There’s a gun in the floorboard…don’t reach for that gun,” an officer warned.

Lessington was arrested shortly after 3 a.m

On Tuesday, police added murder charges to his long list of charges. The 23-year-old, who also lives in the neighborhood, faces twelve criminal offenses. Police said they found more than three pounds of suspected marijuana on him, as well as more than 30 individually packaged e-cigarette cartridges.

Investigators believe Lessington intended to shoot Winds-Clemons’ son, not her.

“I immediately ducked when I heard the shots,” said one neighbor, describing the chaotic scene. His house, where his family was, was also hit by bullets, but no one was injured.

The killing is the first in Suwanee in two years, leaving neighbors and family grieving. “My heart goes out to the family,” said a neighbor.

Nicole Winds-Clemons’ family has launched an online fundraiser to help with funeral costs.
