Pokes, rebels meet in Las Vegas tonight

LARAMIE – The Wyoming Cowboys open their road swing with a trip to Las Vegas for a battle against UNLV on Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The contest is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network, with John Sadak joining Tre Demps on the call.

Fans can listen to the competition and follow the stats at GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio across the Cowboy Sports Network’s 26 affiliate stations, with Keith Kelly joining Kevin McKinney on the call.

About the teams

Wyoming enters the contest with a 9-9 overall record and a 2-5 record in conference play after losing at home to Colorado State on Saturday. Wyoming is shooting 45 percent from the field this season while opponents are shooting 44.4 percent.

Wyoming is shooting 35.2 percent from behind the arc and ranks fourth in the conference. The Pokes grab 35 rebounds per game and are +3.3 on the glass this season.

The Runnin’ Rebels are 11-7 this season and 5-2 in the MW after defeating No. 22 Utah State and No. 22 San Diego State last week. UNLV is shooting 36.7 percent from behind the arc this season and ranks second in the conference.

The Runnin’ Rebels average 71.7 points per game and allow 70.4 points per night. UNLV is one of the most pressured teams in the MW, averaging 6.7 steals per game on the season.

About the players

The Cowboys are led by Obi Agbim with 18.8 points per game, ranking second in the conference. With a hit rate of 46.2 percent, he leads the league and ranks sixth nationally. Jordan Nesbitt added his sixth double-double of the season at Air Force, ranking third in the MW and No. 41 in the nation.

He adds 8.4 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per night to lead the team and rank fourth in the MW. Kobe Newton scores 8.3 points per game and has made 28 three-pointers this season.

UNLV is led by Dedan Thomas Jr. with 15.8 points per game this season. He also leads the team with 81 assists this season, or 4.5 per game. Jaden Henley adds 11.5 points per game and Jailen Bedford adds 10.6 and is second on the team with 35 three-pointers. Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.

About the series

The Cowboys and UNLV will meet for the 67th time on Tuesday. The Runnin’ Rebels lead the series 46-20 and are 12-4 in Las Vegas.
