According to multiple reports, pepper spray was used to de-escalate the skirmish following the Wolverines’ 13-10 win over the No. 2 Buckeyes on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

Other footage showed Michigan defensive end Mason Graham appearing to be sprayed with pepper spray amid the chaos.

Sports Illustrated senior writer Pat Forde said he was caught in the crossfire.

“I just got used pepper spray,” Forde wrote on X.

The brawl broke out shortly after Michigan upset Ohio State when Wolverines players attempted to place their flag on the Buckeyes’ logo at midfield.

“I don’t know all the details, but I know these guys want to raise a flag on our field and our guys weren’t going to let that happen,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said after the game. “I’ll find out exactly what happened, but that’s our area of expertise. We were certainly embarrassed that we lost the game, but there are some proud boys on this team who weren’t going to let that happen.”

Several players could be seen trying to separate them from security, police and team personnel.

“When you have a great game like that, you hate to see something like that after the game,” Michigan running back Kalel Mullings said. “It’s just bad for the sport, bad for college football. But at the end of the day, some people need to learn how to lose.

“You can’t fight and stuff just because you lost a game. In all of these fights we had 60 minutes, we had four quarters in all of these fights. And now people want to talk and fight, that’s wrong. It’s just bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion. People need to do better.”

The ugly scene lasted several minutes before tempers calmed down.

“Unnecessary gesture from the Wolverines,” said Fox play-by-play man Gus Johnson. “They won the game, no need to be disrespectful.”
