After “The Game” between the Michigan Wolverines and the Ohio State Buckeyes, a fight broke out on Saturday evening, during which the Ohio State Police Department had to use pepper spray to contain the players. A video of the incident was posted by Michigan Football on its Instagram account. In the video, officers can be seen using pepper spray as players and players from both teams fight on the field.

The incident occurred at Ohio Stadium after the Michigan Wolverines suffered another loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in “The Game” of 2024 – this year’s iteration of the epic rivalry between Michigan State University and Ohio State University.

The Michigan Wolverines won the game 13-10 and then placed a Wolverines flag in the middle of Ohio Stadium where the Buckeye logo was displayed. Ohio State players jumped in and the two groups traded punches in the middle of the field.

Following the incident, Ohio State PD released a statement regarding the incident:

“After the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in breaking up an altercation on the field,” Ohio State Police said. “During the altercation, several officers from Ohio and Michigan used pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for gaming and will continue the investigation.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day also addressed the incident in an interview with the media after the game.

“Yeah, I don’t know all the details,” Day said. “But I know these guys are trying to plant a flag on our field and our guys weren’t about to let that happen.”

“I’ll find out exactly what happened, but this is our field and of course we’re embarrassed that we lost the game, but there are some proud boys on our team who wouldn’t just let that happen.”
