Pope Francis funeral updates: World leader of the world compete in the Vatican

Pope Francis’ life led him from a modest upbringing in Buenos Aires in order to lead the Roman Catholic Church as the first Jesuit pontiff and the first from Latin America.

In his 12 years as a Pope, Francis consistently increased the causes of migrants and the unknown and urged the church to vigorously confront their own history of the scandal. A deeply religious boy

Pope Francis was born on December 17, 1936 in Buenos Aires as Jorge Mario Bergoglio. His parents were immigrants from Italy and he was the oldest of five siblings. As a boy, he was intelligent, deeply religious and loved dancing the tango.

Religious calling

When he was 16, Jorge hurried to meet friends, but in the basilica St. Joseph in Buenos Aires and felt the urge to go in. In the sanctuary, it felt like “someone was packed me from the inside,” he said, adding: “It was exactly where I knew that I had to be a priest.” He later joined a seminar.

1973

A Jesuit leader

Father Bergoglio became the head of the Jesuits, an order of the priests in Argentina. At that time, the country was in a “dirty war” when the prevailing military junta tortured, killed or “disappeared” up to 30,000 people. Father Bergoglio was later suspended that he had contributed little to protect two priests with antigen government views that were kidnapped and tortured by the regime. He denied the claims and said he had protected priests and others by pressing military officers behind the scenes.

Pater Bergoglio’s term of office as head of the Jesuits ended with controversy, with critics accused him of having an autocratic management style. The church authorities sent him in Frankfurt to de facto exile in Germany and then to Córdoba, Argentina.

A surprising turn to Bishop

The exile of Father Bergoglio was interrupted when he was unexpectedly appointed auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Buenos Aires. He became an archbishop six years later and concentrated on the reach of the poor. It was increased to Cardinal in 2001.

2013

The first Latin American Pope

Francis was elected Pope after Pope Benedict XVI. In relation to health concerns. Francis tried to remove the church of split questions such as abortion and homosexuality, and instead concentrated on climate change, poverty and migration. Address gender abuse

Francis founded a commission to address the clerical sexual abuse scandals of the church. It included victims of abuse and tried to account for bishops, but the efforts finally fell apart.


2014

US Cuba agreement

The United States and Cuba restored diplomatic relationships for the first time in decades. Francis was attributed to bridge the gap between President Barack Obama and President Raúl Castro from Cuba, which led to the historical breakthrough.

A call to act in the area

Francis published Laudato Si ”, the first papal encyclical, concentrated exclusively on the environment. It called for the protection of the environment and denounced the excesses of global capitalism when using the poor.

2018

A deal with China

Francis met a preliminary agreement with the Chinese government to end a decades of power against the right to appoint bishops in the country. The deal gave the church greater access to China, but also seven bishops appointed by Beijing, who said critics that a dangerous precedent was determined.


2019

An urge to protect minors

Francis has given the most comprehensive reaction of the church on the crisis of sexual abuse for decades. It obliged the global church officials to report to their superiors of cases of sexual abuse and efforts to cover them up. However, the police did not require officials to report abuse, an omission that the victims had angry.

The Amazon summit

A meeting of bishops from the Amazon region recommended Francis that married men as priests in remote areas of South America enable ordination. He signaled an openness to the idea, but ultimately put on the proposal.

A effort to include women

For the first time, Francis held a meeting of bishops in the world, which included women and lay people as election members. The synod, as the meeting is known, created some of the most sensitive topics in the church, including the role of women, celibacy and the marital status of the priests, but it did not change these guidelines. After the meeting, Francis allowed priests to bless gay couples.

2025

Death and inheritance

Francis died on Monday at 7:35 a.m., less than a day after blessing the believers who had gathered to an Easter mass on the St. Peter Square. He appeared on a balcony on Sunday and looked frail, and after blessing the crowd, he pushed himself up on a Vatican adjutant to address the crowd in his name.

Francis had struggled serious health problems in the previous months, including a severe respiratory infection that had sent him to the hospital for weeks.

He leaves a legacy of inclusion and activism after he has often spoken to support migrants, marginalized and the environment.
