Potential threat to the Bayside High School in Virginia Beach; a person detained

The school is currently under an internal lock. No injuries are reported.

Virginia Beach, va. – The police state that they are examining a potential threat to the Bayside High School in Virginia Beach and that a person is in custody.

The Virginia Beach (VBPD) police authority said that traffic at school was currently limited. The authorities ask that people avoid the area as they investigate.

Shortly after 2 p.m., VBPD said that “an unarmed person was arrested” and that in search of a registered firearm, a pain of the school is underway.

The police said that no shots were fired and no one was injured.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) said the school was currently under an internal lock. The following message was sent to the school community:

Dear family bayside high school families,

The Bayside High School is currently in an internal lock. The Virginia Beach police authority and the Office for Security and Emergency Management work together to solve the problem. The security of our students and employees remains our top priority.

Please continue to attend the school until school officers can tackle the situation. Updates are made available and you will be notified when the internal block is raised.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

A VBCPS spokesman said that the discharge from school was affected and that organized discharge is planned as soon as the block is canceled.
