Power has been restored to nearly all AES customers affected by the substation issue – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

MIAMI VALLEY – Power has been restored to nearly all customers affected by an issue at an AES substation Tuesday evening.

According to an outage map, 1,326 outages were reported by AES customers as of 9:45 p.m.

According to Mary Ann Kabel, director of corporate communications, a problem with an AES substation caused the outage around 6:15 p.m.

The outage impacted customers in the Huber Heights, Vandalia and Tipp City areas.

Kabel said AES crews are actively making repairs to the substation and conducting tests to determine the cause of the outage.

Huber Heights Police are urging residents not to call 911 to ask about the outage as lines must be open for emergencies.

The City of Huber Heights has opened the Wayne High School cafeteria to anyone who may not have power. Anyone permitted to enter the high school is asked to enter through the student entrance.

The City of Vandalia has opened the Vandalia Recreation Center at 1111 Stonequarry Road as a warming center for residents affected by the power outage.

AES Ohio does not have an estimated recovery time.

“We understand how difficult this outage is in subzero temperatures, and we thank you for your patience as we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” AES Ohio said in a social media post.
