Preview/Lines #25: Granlund is out again, Warsofsky explains he sent Askarov down

Mikael Granlund is back in training but will not play on Wednesday evening.

It’s the second game in a row for the San Jose Sharks’ top scorer.

Head coach Ryan Warsofsky called it a common upper-body injury.

Granlund missed practice on Sunday, which Warsofsky called a maintenance day. On Monday, he missed San Jose’s 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

So it’s nice to see him again at the morning skate, even if not as a full participant.

This should bode well for a quick return.

San Jose Sharks (7-12-5)

Mackenzie Blackwood will start.

Warsofsky also explained that he eliminated top prospect Yaroslav Askarov and also had two healthy veteran goalkeepers, Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek, back in the squad.

“He’s a guy that can play the puck (but) there are times you can do it and there are times you shouldn’t. So that’s what he’s going to learn,” Warsofsky said with a laugh.

He added: “The timing and speed of the game is a lot quicker in the National Hockey League than it is in the American League, so he’s just got to continue to be confident down there. “You know, make the big saves when necessary , and make the easy saves look easy.”

However, Askarov took the Sharks three out of four possible points during his time here and posted a sparkling save percentage of 0.927%.

“We were really happy with what he did in the two games,” Warsofsky said.

Ottawa Senators (9/11/1)
