Prince Albert II of Monaco drives an Extreme H car

Extreme H’s Pioneer 25 was tested by a rather unexpected driver on Monday when HH Prince Albert II of Monaco got behind the wheel of the hydrogen-powered race car.

The Sovereign Prince tried out the car on the streets of Monaco while driving from the Prince’s Palace to the Hermitage Hotel. The purpose of the demonstration was to showcase the car, which will compete in the world’s first hydrogen-powered racing competition next year, ahead of the annual Monaco Hydrogen Alliance Forum, which took place at the prince’s destination and was subsequently opened by him.

“Hydrogen represents an important path towards a sustainable future and offers solutions to reduce emissions across multiple sectors,” said Prince Albert II. “It was a pleasure to be one of the first to try out this remarkable racing car here in Monaco Country that is proud to host the most famous races in Formula 1 and Formula E.”

“As Extreme H shows, innovation in motorsports can be a driving force for global progress and inspire action far beyond the race track.”

As a famous motorsports fan, Prince Albert II is also an advocate for clean energy and sustainability, which makes Monday’s run through the streets of Monaco in the Pioneer 25 quite fitting.

“Prince Albert II’s environmental leadership inspires us all,” said Alejandro Agag, founder of Extreme H. “His support for Extreme H reinforces the message that hydrogen innovation can enable solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“Today’s symbolic drive through Monaco is a testament to the transformative potential of hydrogen.”

A connection between royalty and Extreme H (and its predecessor Extreme E) is nothing new. In 2021, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, tested the Extreme E Odyssen 21 at the Knockhill Circuit in Scotland. Like Prince Albert this time, Prince William was also instructed and trained by Extreme E race winner Catie Munnings before he got into the car. Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal of Saudi Arabia was also a frequent visitor to the Extreme E races held in the Kingdom.
