And that’s a wrap for TAGS 2024.

The 11th Annual Tiger Athletics Give Day lasted 24 hours yesterday. Once again, the support given to Princeton Athletics and its 38 varsity teams has been overwhelming, and TigerBlog joins all of its colleagues in expressing gratitude.

It was a day of celebration and outreach. TAGD, as always, demonstrated the deep loyalty that defines Princeton Athletics and the unbreakable bond that exists between those who train and play here now and those who have done so in the past.

If you followed the day on social media, you saw what an amazing day it was. Have you seen this video produced by Drew Miller of the Multimedia team?

That was a lot for one day, right? If you remember that day, it stands as one of the busiest Princeton Athletics has ever seen, especially as the site of two Ivy League tournaments. The way Drew captured it gives a pretty good idea of what can happen in a day.

The title was: “A lot can happen in one day.” The same was true for yesterday. A lot happened in one day.

Yesterday there were posts of all kinds, from professionally produced videos to those filmed on iPhones. There were pictures of all sorts, some of them featuring the Tiger himself as he appeared during lunch at the Cannon Club.

One of the people who took the lead in producing content was Gracie McGowan, a graduate who just completed her field hockey career. Gracie, who is also a social media veteran in addition to her sport, sent TB a schedule of what should be posted when, along with the necessary caption.

Gracie produced video greetings from many of her teammates, each touching on a different part of the TFH experience. Here’s an example with senior Lily Webb:

TB could provide all sorts of examples for any sport. The theme was “Golden Moments,” and TB even featured the Cayuga Blu Hotel in Ithaca as part of the men’s lacrosse moments in conjunction with last year’s Ivy League tournament championship for the second year in a row (the Princeton men’s lacrosse, by the way). 2025 lacrosse schedule included has been released).

There will also be follow-ups, with acknowledgments and final results as well as the winners of each round. There have already been thanks, including from the athletes, many of whom addressed directly to existing members of the circle of friends.

Ultimately, it was a day of celebration – and again to those who generously donated, know that your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Of course, since a lot can happen in one day, TAGD wasn’t the only news of the day at Princeton Athletics. There was also Xaivian Lee.

The Princeton men’s basketball team played last night at Saint Joseph’s and it was clear early on that Lee, the junior guard, was on the hunt for history. What kind? There had never been a triple-double in the entire history of Princeton men’s basketball.

Would Lee change that last night?

By halftime he had six points, seven assists and eight rebounds. At the start of the second half, he reached double figures in points and rebounds. All that was left were assists. He had eight of them and there were 17:33 minutes left.

So now there were two dramas. Would Princeton ultimately pull off the back-and-forth game? And would Lee get his two assists?

He was stuck with eight assists for about 15 minutes. Sure, he started scoring, hitting a big three-pointer, getting free in the lane and helping Princeton build a slight lead. But the assists. Would they happen?

Well, with just over two minutes left, Lee picked up assist No. 9 on Philip Byriel’s sixth three-pointer of the night, making the score 71-65 for the Tigers.

After the Hawks answered to make it 71-67, Lee brought the ball into the lane, looked like he was going to the basket and instead found Caden Pierce, whose reverse layup actually went down. Assist #10.

Story.

Okay, it’s very likely that there would have been a triple-double if assists had been officially maintained before 1974. Bill Bradley probably would have had a lot of it.

But the reality is that no Tiger man has done this since 1974, and that’s 50 years – and a lot of great players.

In the end, Princeton got a big win, defeating the Hawks 77-69.

Lee finished the game with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

Yes indeed. A lot happened yesterday.
