Prosecutors show video of student’s final moments running at UGA

Prosecutors presented evidence Tuesday that Laken Riley walked toward the University of Georgia campus, as well as footage of suspected killer Jose Ibarra also walking into the woods near the campus.

Sergeant. Sophie Raboud of the University of Georgia Criminal Investigation Department was on the witness stand and described what she saw in the video that linked Ibarra to the murder.

Trail cameras captured Ibarra acting suspiciously on the morning of Feb. 22 before disappearing into the woods near Lake Herrick and the IM fields. About an hour later, Riley is seen walking down Milledge Ave. Run down Extension before turning into the woods to head towards the trails.

The public prosecutor’s office closed its case on Tuesday. The defense will continue on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., the fourth day of the trial.

The bench trial could reach the final hearing stage, which would send the case to Supreme Court Justice Patrick Haggard to decide guilt or innocence on the charges against Ibarra, which range from murder to attempted rape. Ibarra chose a bench trial before the judge over a jury trial.
