Queen Camilla reveals the true nature of her weeks-long illness

Queen Camilla revealed a new health crisis in the royal family on Tuesday after telling a group of visitors that included the Emir of Qatar that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia.

Camilla’s comments undermined the palace’s careful efforts to downplay her illness, as palace sources had repeatedly informed the media in recent weeks that she was suffering from a “nasty illness” or a “persistent chest infection.”

They acknowledged Tuesday following Camilla’s comments that she had pneumonia, an illness that can be fatal.

She is believed to have contracted the disease on or immediately after her and her husband’s grueling official trip to Australasia, which ironically ended with a three-day stay at a spa in India.

Camilla has kept a particularly low profile since returning from the trip at the end of October, skipping important events such as the Remembrance Sunday ceremonies, which mark the end of the First World War and honor all veterans.

She also takes a reduced role during the state visit to Qatar, which began today in London, avoiding prolonged standing and not taking part in important aspects of the visit. The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, on the other hand, takes part in numerous banquets and events.

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that causes inflammation of the alveoli, which can fill with fluid. Depending on the cause, age and health of the individual, it can range from mild to life-threatening.

The most severe cases are bacterial pneumonia, often caused by Streptococcus pneumoniaeThis leads to high fever, chest pain and difficulty breathing.

Viral pneumonia, which the palace now suspects Camilla is suffering from, can be caused by flu or COVID-19, is often milder and is sometimes called “walking pneumonia.”

An official palace source said: “(The Queen) has decided to make it clear to some in attendance that the specific viral chest infection she had was a form of pneumonia. “She has recovered well but continues to suffer of episodic symptoms of post-viral fatigue.”
