Queer Film: When will it be available on OTT streaming platform?

Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated film “Queer,” based on the novel by William S. Burroughs, is not currently available to stream, leaving fans excited to see when they can watch it from the comfort of their own homes.

While the film is receiving great reviews during its limited theatrical release, it will not release on an OTT platform immediately.

“Queer” tells the story of William Lee (played by Daniel Craig), a lonely American exile in 1950s Mexico City whose life changes when a young student named Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey) arrives in town. The film also stars Lesley Manville and Jason Schwartzman. Shot at Cinecittà Studios and with additional scenes shot in Quito, Ecuador, as a stand-in for Mexico City, the film has already made a name for itself.

Guadagnino brings his signature visual style and emotional depth to “Queer,” making it a standout film in both narrative and cinematography.

The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, followed by screenings at the New York Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival, where it attracted widespread attention for its rich storytelling and outstanding performances.

“Queer” is currently being released in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on November 27, 2024. A nationwide release is scheduled for December 13, 2024.

Although the film won’t be streaming immediately, “Queer” will eventually be available digitally. A24 entered into a multi-year production deal with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) in 2023, securing a streaming location for its films on HBO and Max. As part of this agreement, “Queer” is expected to land on “Max” after its theatrical release but the exact timing remains unclear.

Moviegoers can now experience “Queer” in the cinema. For home viewers, the film will likely be released on Max sometime after its exclusive theatrical release. Until then, fans will have to wait for the streaming debut following the digital release.
