Quitman’s Dear signs with Alabama

QUITMAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Quitman 4-star running back Akylin Dear signed with the University of Alabama on National Signing Day.

“Man, my heart is beating really fast. It’s a dream come true to make my dad happy, to make my family happy, especially my mom and the people upstairs watching down here. It’s a dream come true, man. All glory to God for everything that’s happening right now,” Dear said.

Lieber cites the relationship he has with Alabama running backs coach Robert Gillespie as one of the main reasons he signed with the Crimson Tide.

“Coach Gillespie, man, this man is unbelievable. You know, he and I come from the same area, in Mississippi. We bonded really quickly and really well,” Dear said.

Kalen Deboer’s success in his first year at Alabama and their relationship are a big reason Dear also chose the Tide.

“His honesty, the trust he gives…everything…he’s a great guy, a great guy, a great coach. I’m ready to be under him,” Dear added.

When asked what type of player Alabama is bringing in in Akylin Dear, Quitman head coach Josh Pulphus said, “Alabama is bringing in one of the most exciting players in the state. (He’s a young man with great vision, a young man who studies the game and a young man who loves the game. I look forward to seeing him on Saturdays. Alabama just doesn’t know they’re the one to get the better player in the state.”

Dear is an early enrollee and will therefore be on campus in the spring semester.
