Rakhmonov’s “relentless pressure” will be too much for Garry

Renowned coach Firas Zahabi believes Shavkat Rakhmonov will not lose his perfect record against his unbeaten rival Ian Garry.

Rakhmonov and Garry will trade leather on Saturday at UFC 310 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In this fight, one of the undefeated welterweights will lose his perfect record. And Zahabi doesn’t think it will be Rakhmonov, at least for now.

Zahabi has been impressed by Rakhmonov for some time and recognizes the Kazakh for the enigma that he is. Zahabi recently again praised Rakhmonov’s toughness, which he believes will be too much for Garry. Although Zahabi has seen flaws in Rakhmonov’s defense, he believes “Nomad” will make up for it with sheer determination.

“I think Shavkat will beat (Ian Garry). “After watching his fights, it’s pretty obvious,” the Tristar Gym trainer said on YouTube. “He has relentless pressure, the man is an animal. He doesn’t have the best defense, but when he gets hit he moves forward. Yes, I even saw him get dropped. He stands up like a zombie and walks forward. It has incredible robustness and resilience. Now his defense is good; it’s just not great. He gets hit, he gets tagged, he gets pushed around, he even gets knocked down. He jumps back up and marches forward. His relentless pressure will be far too much for (Garry) in my opinion.”

However, Zahabi also believes that the deficiencies in Rakhmonov’s defense will one day cost him his unbeaten record.

“He takes it, man. He’s so tough. He gets hit… he doesn’t have the best defense,” Zahabi said. “One day it will catch up with him. One day we may watch Shavkat get stopped, get seriously injured, or lose a fight. I just don’t think it’s this one. I just don’t think it’s Ian Garry.”

Rakhmonov has achieved all eighteen victories in his career so far, including six UFC appearances. Garry has now won three of his eight UFC victories and has suffered a total of eight stoppages in 15 wins.
