Record number of Idahoans voted in 2024 general election | Idaho

BOISE – Secretary of State Phil McGrane, Controller Brandon Woolf and Treasurer Julie Ellsworth questioned the results of the 2024 Idaho general election today at the Idaho State Capitol in Boise as the Idaho Board of Canvassers. The board also heard a report on recent post-election audits that followed the election in eight randomly selected districts were carried out.

As set forth in Idaho statute, the Board of Canvassers meets to certify results for federal, state and county offices. The purpose of the election is to confirm the results of the parliamentary elections as official.

Election data from the survey shows a record number of Idahoans voted in the general election with 917,469 votes cast. Turnout was 77.8% of registered voters, and 121,015 voters used same-day registration or early voting. Voter turnout data by county is available at VoteIdaho.gov. Election results, including poll reports, can be found on the VoteIdaho.gov Election Results page.

The 2024 general post-election audit confirmed the reliability of voting systems in eight Idaho counties audited. Minor discrepancies were noted in hand counts compared to official county results, primarily due to human error and procedural issues. The post-election audits were conducted November 16-21 in Bear Lake, Bingham, Clearwater, Custer, Elmore, Jerome, Latah and Minidoka counties. Audit teams consisting of Secretary of State staff and Boise State University Beta Alpha Psi accounting student volunteers conducted a hand count of results in precincts and ballots randomly selected by the Board of Canvassers before the audits. The audit report is available at VoteIdaho.gov.

Secretary Phil McGrane expressed his gratitude and confidence in Idaho’s election process: “The success of this election is a testament to the hard work and preparation of Idaho’s 44 county clerks, election officials and poll workers. The announcement of the official results marks the culmination of months of effort by these dedicated teams. I am grateful to Treasurer Ellsworth and Controller Woolf for their cooperation as members of the Board of Canvassers. The smooth elections and success of post-election audits reflect the commitment of Idaho clerks and election staff to the 12 Principles of Idaho Elections, which ensure voting is easy, secure and accurate. Idahoans can be proud of the strength and integrity of our election system.”
