If you’re still arguing about how a 14-year-old game can come to Steam at a price of $50, then keep scratching, because we can’t justify that for you. On the other hand, there’s no doubt that since Red Dead Redemption was released on Steam a few months ago, the PC has become the definitive way to play Rockstar’s western classic (although apparently it’s not half bad on the Asus ROG Ally X either ). And a big part of that is the fact that it can now be modified until the cows come home.

Modders have wasted no time getting into this There are currently 335 Red Dead Redemption mods available on Nexus Mods. By far the most popular and comprehensive of these is this Reality Redemption Revision Projectwhich goes a long way to giving the game that “RDR 2” feel. The mod has just started its 3.0 iteration, which includes almost 4GB of high-resolution textures and character models, as well as improved reflections, physics, draw distances, particle effects, and much more many further improvements. It looks like it’s received a reshade too, with vibrant colors highlighting the iconic contrast of the copper-colored high desert landscape with the blue sky above.

Looking at the images, it looks like a completely different take on the hard-hitting game I played on the PlayStation 3 in 2010.

The mod also goes beyond just graphics and makes various optimizations specifically aimed at making the original better suited to Red Dead 2. Camera behavior has been adjusted to resemble the sequel’s tighter, more cinematic perspective, and the weather system is in the process of being overhauled to make it more dynamic, with improved time cycles, lighting, and cloud variations and shadows.

The minds behind Reality Redemption don’t seem to be finished yet. The mod has a long to-do list, including a work-in-progress entry that aims to “update the game’s lore with new textures, dialogue, and subtitles.” Sounds great! If Rockstar deigned to halve the PC price of Red Dead Redemption, I might be forced to revisit John Marston’s stomping grounds (and I don’t mean his OnlyFans page).
