The following is a release from the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s Office

On November 14, 2024, Trevon McClyde (DOB 02/02/1993), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty in the Illinois Department of Corrections to seven years of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony. The sentence was ordered by Judge Robert McIntire. Following his incarceration, McClyde will serve 12 months of supervised release.

The People presented evidence that on July 10, 2024, shortly before 7:00 p.m., Danville police officers conducted a traffic stop for an Illinois Motor Vehicle Code violation on a red, four-door Cadillac sedan in the area of East Williams Street . As the vehicle approached, officers discovered a large knife and an open package of cannabis edibles in the back seat. The driver, Trevon McClyde, stated that the knife was used for fishing and the edibles did not belong to him.

After further investigation, officers determined that McClyde was a convicted felon. Officers searched the rest of the vehicle and found a soft guitar case. Inside the suitcase, officers found five live 12-gauge shotgun shells and a drum magazine. During his arrest, McClyde told police there was a gun in the vehicle. Officers then secured McClyde in the patrol car and continued a search of the vehicle. They found an AK-47 platform rifle, a 30-round AK-47 magazine, an additional stock for the AK-47 platform rifle, a slide rail and 19 live rounds of ammunition.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Lacy said, “I want to thank the Danville Police Department for their work to remove repeat offenders with illegal firearms from the streets of our community. “Together, we continue to make progress in protecting the citizens of Danville and prosecuting violent criminals.”
