Research to Prevent Blindness extends 5,000 unrestricted grant to the School of Medicine – School of Medicine News

Wayne State University School of Medicine will again receive a $115,000 unrestricted grant from Research to Prevent Blindness to support eye research conducted in 2025 by the Department of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences. Funding is based on a review of criteria including the department’s research activities, laboratory environment, and clinical and research staff, assessed by the RPB’s prestigious Scientific Advisory Board.

Funds will be used at the discretion of the department head to ensure maximum flexibility in developing and expanding eye research programs and to provide opportunities for creative planning beyond the scope of limited project grants.

“This is a very competitive grant, with only 30 funded in the United States, and so we appreciate the trust that Research to Prevent Blindness continues to place in us,” said department chair and professor Mark Juzych, MD. “Continued funding from RPB until.” The Department of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences and the Kresge Eye Institute enable us to not only pursue our research mission, but also to help people suffering from eye diseases and the next generation of eye researchers to support.”

Since its founding in 1960, RPB has invested more than $424 million in eye research. As a result, RPB was associated with almost every major breakthrough in vision research during this period.
