Rival Sons – “Pair Of Aces” Live from Catalina Island, available for the first time on video and audio streaming platforms ♠️♦️

In June 2021, rock and roll band Rival sons delivered two live performances on Catalina Island, California. They were originally streamed via VEEPS to fans at home around the world, many of whom were still in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the time the band explained: “We have all been through so much in the last year and a half. We wanted to be on the road for you. As you know, we started our Sacred Tongue Recordings label and re-released our early material. We felt that re-recording these first two records in a prestigious live environment was the best way to give them the first-class treatment that our humble beginnings could not provide.

Now, for the first time, these performances can be viewed on YouTube and streamed on audio platforms. Both performances will premiere via YouTube and will be released fully digitally. A FEW ACES: LIVE FROM SANTA CATALINA ISLAND (PART 1) will be published on November 22nd; save in advance HERE. RSVP for the YouTube premiere HERE. A FEW ACES: LIVE FROM SANTA CATALINA ISLAND (PART 2) will be released orn December 13th; save in advance HERE. Individual songs for both evenings will also be available the following day.

And “Soul” from Night 2 HERE

Frontman Jay Buchanan Comments: “Finally releasing both audio and video of these performances feels good. When we recorded these gigs the band was deep into the later DARKFIGHTER/LIGHTBRINGER collection, so it felt great to step away from all that heavy lifting and blow some dust off our origin story. It’s a raw, unfiltered look at a band fighting the isolation of time.

Santa Catalina Island is a rocky island off the coast of Southern California in the Gulf of Santa Catalina. The island covers an area of approximately 75 square miles. The Catalina Casino is a 92 year old building built by the Wrigleys. Dominating the Avalon landscape from its majestic spot on the bay, the casino is an example of Avalon style and romance Catalina Island.

Buchanan explains: “It has been a dream of mine to play in the casino since I was there as a child. During the pandemic years we had intended to record a livestream, but we were put off by how terribly things had turned out for so many bands. We wanted to record a performance where we just played for each other without an audience. Together, generate the energy to do it. Like everyone else, we haven’t had the opportunity to tour or play shows at all for over fifteen months, and it’s been killing us.”

guitarist Scott Holiday Comments: “You can see Catalina Island from the beach town where I live. I’ve been visiting her for years. Every time I was there, I made sure to visit the old historic casino that sits proudly at one end of the harbor in Avalon. And every time I took the tour I thought the same thing: wouldn’t it be so great to play in these rooms and make a live film? And so… Rival Sons did just that.

One evening in the ballroom (in the round!) performance Before the fireand the next night we played that self-titled record in the old cinema. It was just as cool and interesting as I hoped. It is a great honor and joy to fill this beautiful place with sound. Rival Sons play rock and roll in its purest form, without apology or pretense. You just plug in, switch on and race your own way. Over time they have created a critically acclaimed catalog including Pressure & Time (2011), Head Down (2012), Great Western Valkyrie (2014), Hollow Bones (2016) and FERAL ROOTS (2019). The latter represented a creative and critical highlight and received two GRAMMY® nominations for the single “Too Bad” in the categories “Best Rock Album” and “Best Rock Performance”. “Do Your Worst” took the band to a new level and landed at No. 1 at Rock Radio as their biggest hit to date, with more than 60 million streams and counting. Of their impact, Rolling Stone said: “Rival Sons have done their part to introduce new fans to rock.” Not only have they shared the stage with everyone from Black Sabbath, the Rolling Stones and AC/DC to Guns N’ Roses and Lenny Kravitz, but have also created television shows such as The Late Late Show with James Corden. In 2021, they launched their own label, Sacred Tongue Recordings, distributed by Thirty Tigers, and celebrated the anniversary of their debut album with live-streamed performances from Catalina Island Casino.

Chosen by Black Sabbath for their latest tour, they have held their own on stage with the likes of the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Lenny Kravitz, in addition to blowing the roof off television classics like The Late Late Show with James Corden , Jools Holland and Jimmy Kimmel.

In 2023, they continued to exceed expectations with two full-length LPs – DARKFIGHTER and LIGHTBRINGER. Although the genesis of these albums is closely linked, they also testify to the band’s continuous progress.

The band once played over 250 shows a year and is a regular at festivals in Europe and North America. One of the busiest rock ‘n’ roll bands around, the band completed extensive festival dates in Europe throughout the summer in 2024 and then embarked on the Two Headed Beast tour of North America with Clutch.
