Robeisy Ramirez: Expect war in rematch with Rafael Espinoza – I always get back up after a fall | Boxing News

A season of exciting rematches begins Sky Sports this weekend with doubles matches Rafael Espinoza vs. Robeisy Ramirez and Emanuel Navarrete vs. Oscar Valdez.

Later this month, Tyson Fury will fight Oleksandr Usyk for the unified world heavyweight title for a second time.

Ramirez will be in the first of these world championship rematches when he boxes Mexico’s Rafael Espinoza for the WBO featherweight world title that the Cuban once held.

A year ago, the unheralded Espinoza defeated Ramirez in one of the best fights of 2023, and the Cuban believes it will be an equally intense fight the second time around.

“You can expect a war,” Ramirez said Sky Sports. “We all know what Mexican fighters are like. They never give up.”

“The reality is that it wasn’t the best version of me and I was still able to put on a great show and therefore the second fight will be better.”

Highlights from Rafael Espinoza’s stunning upset victory over Robeisy Ramirez to secure the WBO featherweight title.

It won’t be the first time Ramirez has had to bounce back from a tough loss. The two-time Olympic gold medalist unexpectedly lost his professional debut to Adan Gonzales, but got revenge by winning the rematch a year later.

He wants to repeat this form this weekend.

“I try not to go in there full of anger at the fighter. I go there and concentrate on my job. “I always characterize myself by getting up after I fall,” he said. “I will be a champion again.

“I will return to where I should be.”

In the first fight, Ramirez dropped Espinoza in the fifth round, but was himself knocked down in the final round when Espinoza took a majority decision.

“I recognize that he came to win. But I didn’t think I would lose. In the last round he didn’t land a punch that would have put me in a bad position. I went down, if you see the replay, I went down.” “I’m down with fatigue,” Ramirez insisted.

“I didn’t see myself as a loser.”

Robeisy Ramirez scored a stunning uppercut knockout over Brandon Benitez in the seventh round of their featherweight fight.

The victory would set him up for exciting fights with other champions like Nick Ball or Angelo Leo in 2025.

“It’s no problem to fight any of them. “It’s one of the things that I’ve always had in my mind in my career and one of the things that I have to do in my career,” he explained.

“Now I have to reclaim my title and I will be ready to compete against any of the champions there.”
