Robert Saleh gets a Raiders interview as Bill Belichick rumors swirl

A second NFL team will interview Robert Saleh for the head coaching job.

According to ProFootballTalk, the Raiders, who fired Antonio Pierce on Tuesday after just one full season as the team’s head coach, have scheduled an interview with Saleh.

Saleh, who applied for his old job as defensive coordinator with the 49ers on Thursday, is also set to interview with the Jaguars for the head coaching job.

The Jets fired Saleh in October after the team fell to 2-3 with a loss to the Vikings in London.

The 45-year-old Saleh ended his three-plus year tenure with the Jets with a 20-36 record.

The Jets went 3-9 for the remainder of the 2024 season under interim coach Jeff Ulbrich.

Since then, Saleh has worked as a consultant with the Packers under his friend, head coach Matt LaFleur.

Las Vegas went 4-13 this season under Pierce, who, after replacing Josh McDaniels midway through the 2023 season as interim coach, finished 5-4 the rest of the year.

The Raiders’ opening is arguably the most intriguing of the six NFL head coaching vacancies.

NFL Network reported Wednesday that Tom Brady, a minority owner of the Raiders, “recently” contacted his longtime Patriots coach Bill Belichick about the possibility of a reunion in Vegas.

Belichick, 72, made a surprise rise to the college ranks last month by taking the head coaching job at North Carolina after making several media appearances following his split from the Patriots last year.

However, Belichick has no plans to leave UNC for an NFL job, The Athletic reported.

Belichick’s former player Mike Vrabel is a hot coaching candidate after sitting out a year following his firing by the Titans last January.

He could find himself in the middle of a tug-of-war between his former quarterback Brady and his former owner Robert Kraft, as the Patriots released Jerod Mayo after just one season.
