Sadie Robertson Huff explains why you’ll never find your soulmate

Christian speaker Sadie Robertson Huff brought some family members of the DUCK DYNASTY gang on her podcast to answer one of life’s biggest questions – how do you know when you’ve found the right one?

“I don’t think that exists. I think there’s the one you choose: “I want to spend the rest of my life with this person and dedicate myself to them,” says Huff’s uncle Al Robertson said on the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.

Al and his wife Lisa have been married for 40 years and have co-authored books such as “A New Season” and “Desperate Forgiveness” and shared publicly how God repaired their marriage even after infidelity.

“I thought, ‘I’m all in. I’m a brand new Christian and I want to live my life with this person.’ And I knew it wasn’t going to be easy,” Al said about his decision to marry Lisa.

“I made a commitment in all of this. So we went through a lot of difficulties, but I still persevered through the process with great dedication no matter what,” he continued.

His niece agreed that it’s not about finding “the one,” but rather about finding the one who is God’s best – someone whose values and goals align with your own.

“I think it’s good not to see it that way. Because I think when you look at it that way, there is a person out there for you (and you have to find them),” Huff said. “I think when you get married and then go through hard times, there’s more room to think, ‘I’m choosing the wrong person.’ It’s like you’re committed to that person and you didn’t make the wrong decision.”

Sadie reflected on her relationship with her husband Christian, with whom she has been married since 2019 and with whom she has two children.

“However, when Christian and I got together, I thought he was absolutely incredible. “I felt like he was God’s best for me,” Huff said. “Our lives aligned, the dreams we had, the passions we had, our morals. Everything fell into place. Was it perfect? No. Is it like I found the unicorn of the world?”

“I think when you put the pressure on yourself to find it… like you have to find the right thing. And if not, what? If you miss it, you’re at risk of failure,” Huff says said. “You find the person you think is God’s best for you, you make a commitment, and then you go through life together, committed to the covenant you made with the Lord, and you have God, you know, the one that helps you stay together.”

Si Robertson added the importance of considering family dynamics and the “emotional baggage” that may be brought into the relationship.

“You have to look at the parents. Who are they, you know, what are their beliefs, what is their way of working?” Si said. “You are two individuals; You were raised differently than him. So it’s profound…you have to look at it realistically, what do you have in common?”

Al shared how important it is in a marriage to “leave room for growth” because the person within a couple changes throughout the marriage and each season presents different challenges. As an example, he cites how his and Lisa’s relationship has developed since her breast cancer diagnosis.

“I was a little surprised when she said, ‘Now I know how much you love me.’ And at first it brought me back,” he said called back. “I thought, ‘Well, baby, didn’t you think I loved you before?’ She said, “No, I knew that.” She said, “But I didn’t know what level you were at until you took care of me despite that cancer story.”

“I realized that this was a growth on my part that God contributed. So I was fully involved in everything that was happening. And that’s how the relationship grew in the marriage,” Robertson continued.

Earlier this year, Lisa Robertson had breast surgery to remove the cancer and shared how she trusted the Lord throughout the process.

“I feel like this is just another part of my story that God will help me bless other people with,” she said said.

“I think your reaction is the most important thing. Whenever someone tells you, “You have cancer,” how do you react?” Lisa posted on Instagram. “Well then I will praise God. It’s not something you look forward to, but I’m excited to grow into it in my walk with Jesus.”
