Salute to Idaho Agriculture – Sugar Beets

BURLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – “They are very important, we grow a lot of sugar beets in the state that contribute millions of dollars to our economy.”

The Sugar Beet Conference is an annual event that highlights an important crop in Idaho. Albert Adjesiwor, assistant professor of plant sciences at the University of Idaho, helped plan this year’s conference, “Important Crops for Farmers Because It Makes Money, Just Like Crop Rotation.”

Conferences like these provide farmers with the opportunity to network while discussing their struggles and successes over the past growing season.

“So this is the first conference where we’re able to share all the new things that are new information that we’ve gotten this season and so they’re getting updates on things that they’ve seen this year have when you have grown and you know what you know. “The neighbor has a problem this year that you also want to look for.”

Since the conference takes place every year after harvest, Adjesiwor said its success depends heavily on the participation of Idaho farmers

“It’s something we do so people look forward to it and in the future I would always send you an event to put on your calendar. It’s a great event if you’re involved in sugar beet farming.”
