Threatened with relegation Bristol Rovers will begin life without manager Matt Taylor on Saturday when they host star-studded guests Wrexham in one League One clash at Memorial Stadium.

Rovers sacked Taylor earlier this week after a 2-0 defeat at Birmingham City left them just two points above the relegation zone, but things won’t get any easier for interim coach David Horseman this weekend with promotion-chasing Wrexham coming to town .

We say: Bristol Rovers 0-2 Wrexham

With the Gas struggling to create many chances of late, it’s difficult to see them scoring against League One’s toughest defence.

On the other hand, Wrexham are in the hunt for promotion this season and are in danger of falling behind in the title race if they don’t take all three points. So you can expect the Parkinson team to make up for their draw in their last game with a win on Saturday.

Lincoln City Be a host reading on Saturday afternoon looking for a win that would bring them level on points with their opponents.

These two teams are in ninth and sixth place in the table First League tablealbeit lagging behind the top three.

We say: Lincoln City 2-0 Reading

Although Lincoln is completely out of shape, we can’t ignore the fact that Reading are still coming to terms with life under Hunt. With this in mind, we support the home team to win this competition in the final stages.

The goal is to get back into the top six First League table, Barnsley will be welcome Leyton Orient to Oakwell on Saturday.

Last weekend, the hosts moved within one point of sixth place with their return to winning ways, while their visitors moved up to 18th place with an improved run.

We say: Barnsley 1-0 Leyton Orient

A resurgent Leyton Orient side will certainly provide Barnsley with a tough test, especially given their impressive defensive record, but with home advantage we reckon Clarke’s men have enough to seal the O’s clean sheet run finish and get all three points on Saturday.

Blackpool Be a host Stevenage on Saturday afternoon to continue their climb First League table.

While the Seasiders sit 10th in the standings, the visitors to Bloomfield Road are one point behind in 12th.

We say: Blackpool 1-1 Stevenage

With these two teams both in very good form and ready to crack the top six, this is a difficult game. Although Blackpool deserve to be considered favourites, we’re backing Stevenage to secure an invaluable share of the spoils at the end of the season.

Burton Albion compete against each other Exeter City on Saturday afternoon with Gary Bowyer, who is looking to make an immediate impact as the club’s new head coach.

While the Brewers are nine points behind Safety, the guests are five points ahead of them League One relegation spot.

We say: Burton Albion 1-2 Exeter City

With this being the start of another new era for Burton, Bowyer will be eager to make an immediate impact. However, regardless of their own poor form, we believe that the visitors to the Pirelli Stadium have the qualities to top this competition with the odd goal out of three.

The hosts have fallen to 11th on a seven-game winning streak, while their visitors have moved within touching distance of the top half with back-to-back wins.

We say: Mansfield Town 1-2 Rotherham United

Rotherham United look to be getting back on track and showing their quality after a difficult start, while Mansfield Town are rapidly slipping down the League One table and we’re confident the Millers will win at the weekend and continue their rise become.

Northampton Town interim manager Ian Sampson during his team's match against Peterborough United on December 9, 2024© Imago

There is a threat of relegation this season Northampton Town are set to host Charlton Athletic at Sixfields Stadium on Saturday in League One.

Both teams are in poor form heading into this weekend’s clash, although the Cobblers have lost their last two games while the Addicks managed at least a draw against Mansfield Town last time out.

We say: Northampton Town 0-2 Charlton Athletic

Neither team is at their best at the moment, but Charlton’s superior defense could make it difficult for the Cobblers to create chances.

Furthermore, given the nature of the hosts’ back-to-back defeats leading up to this weekend’s clash, it is difficult to see anything other than another defeat for Northampton on Saturday.

Wigan Athletic manager Shaun Maloney on September 28, 2024© Imago

In Shaun Maloney’s 100th game as a boss Wigan Athletic will welcome Gareth Ainsworth, who is threatened with relegation City of Shrewsbury at Brick Community Stadium on Saturday in League One.

Wigan head into the clash with confidence after a derby win over Bolton Wanderers in their last game, while Shrewsbury are on a run of three defeats in a row.

We say: Wigan Athletic 2-0 Shrewsbury Town

Wigan’s victory over their rivals should see them go into this weekend’s clash with renewed confidence and their defensive resilience should prevent Shrewsbury from scoring.

Furthermore, given the Shrews’ poor defensive record, it is difficult to see anything other than a comfortable win for Latics on Saturday.
