India’s 18-year-old grandmaster D Gukesh is on the verge of history as he takes on reigning world champion Ding Liren, 32, of China at the World Chess Championship. Also, only one Indian has held the world title so far and there is no prize that can be guessed: Viswanathan Anand.

Gukesh, who hails from Chennai, is already the youngest challenger ever for the world chess title. At the record age of 17, he won the 2024 FIDE Candidates Tournament and thus became a challenger for the World Chess Championship.
