School classes in St. Louis were canceled on Tuesday. Here you can find out which districts have canceled

The closures were announced nearly 12 hours after the region’s last snowfall.

ST. LOUIS – Winter break was unexpectedly extended Monday for thousands of students across the St. Louis region due to a widespread winter storm. Classes were pushed back even further in some districts as roads remained dangerous.

Numerous school districts canceled classes for Tuesday after snow and ice caused transportation problems on area roads Monday. Many closures were announced around 3 p.m. Monday as numerous roads remained overcast and slippery nearly 12 hours after the winter storm’s final snowfall early Monday morning.

The Rockwood School District, the largest school district in St. Louis County, announced at 4:11 p.m. that all schools and activities would remain closed Tuesday due to dangerous road conditions.

St. Louis Public Schools announced there will be an AMI, or virtual day, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m

Some of the region’s other largest counties were among the first to announce their closures Tuesday, including Francis Howell (AMI Day), Fort Zumwalt and Wentzville.

As of Monday, area roads were still being cleared by IDOT and MODOT, so drivers were urged to delay their travel or reschedule plans. Road conditions remained dangerous and with temperatures not expected to rise above freezing until the weekend, it will take time and patience to improve conditions.

Morning temperatures will dip into the single digits across the region through Friday, with afternoon highs in the 20s. There is a chance of snow again on Friday. This system will be further away from us than last weekend’s snowstorm, so impacts are not expected to be as severe.
