School Spirit: Eastern Regional High School Marching Band

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — It’s Friday, which means it’s time to celebrate school spirit at 6abc.

This week we welcomed the Eastern Regional High School Marching Band to The Yard where they showed why they are back-to-back champions on the Atlantic Coast.

“All the time with family is kind of the band motto, but it’s also the family motto,” said Kayla Stanz, a former student whose father happens to be the band director.

“It’s unbelievable. I love it. My dad and I have a really strong bond because of that,” said Ashley Stanz, Kayla’s younger sister.

John Stanz has been a band director for almost two decades. He says he works hard to create a family atmosphere with his 80-piece band, which he does easily when he also works with some of his own children.

“It’s all about teamwork. We push these kids, the kids push us back to make sure we strive for the best we can. Teamwork and we are a unit,” he said.

This teamwork has brought much success to the students from Voorhees, New Jersey.

“I love the community and how we all come together to work on something as a group and in the end it is so inspiring how much we all grow together,” said drum major Madeleine Siri.

This growth, coupled with school spirit, has made for memorable seasons for the Eastern Regional Vikings.

“I had a duet with my older brother who was graduating and it was just a really nice moment and a great way to end his year and my season,” said Josh Kelly, a senior.

The band isn’t quite finished with their performance yet.

This Friday they will play aboard the Battleship New Jersey at a Pearl Harbor Day memorial concert.
