Scout Range Extender will be a non-turbo four-cylinder, the 500 miles

  • The CEO of Scout Motors reveals new details about the upcoming electric and range extender trucks.
  • The pure EV will be faster, but the EREV will have a combined range and will be better to tow.
  • The traveler -SUV is much more popular in early reservation owners than the Terra pickup.

The revival of the Scout Motors brand under Volkswagen is one of the most exciting developments in the US electric vehicle scene, but we still don’t know much about its upcoming vehicles. We saw what they will look like, but only very little technical information or specifications. One of the most important things that Scout distinguishes from other companies is that it should offer pure electrical and extended versions of its vehicles.

Scott Keogh Scott Keogh, President and CEO von Scout Engine trend Podcast. The Scout boss revealed that there would be range, performance and other differences between the two drive lines.

The “Harvester” ranking will contain a four -cylinder engine with a generator, which probably comes from Volkswagen, the car manufacturer behind the brand’s revival. Keogh said it was a “good four -cylinder with a high edition that is well packed”. The engine has no turbocharger. So if it is a VW unit, it requires a comprehensive modification for its role as a generator.

Keogh also showed that the Harvester has a battery capacity of around 60 or 70 kilowatt hours.

The EREV has a pure battery range of around 150 miles, but in combination with a full tank that increases to over 500 miles. Keogh mentioned that this variant would receive a “creative” solution for air intake and cooling because the engine is right in front of the rear axle, but it did not describe this further. It will probably have a hidden air absorption.

Together with the fuel tank, they occupy the room that would have been used up by the larger battery in the pure EV variant. This means that the interior packaging between the two versions is the same, both of which have the same capacity in the front trunk.

The BEV variant has a planned range of 350 miles on a load and also has a better performance of the straight line with an estimated acceleration time of 0 to 60 miles per hour of around 3.5 seconds. According to Keogh, the EREV will complete the sprint in 4.5 seconds.

The two versions also have different batteries, which also affect the performance expenditure of the vehicles. Keogh indicated that the EREV would get a cheaper battery of the battery that would lead to less performance, but it has not introduced itself in details.

It would make sense that the EREV have a lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) and the EV to get a nickel -Mangan -cobalt battery in order to use the strengths of the two chemicals. The former is more affordable and takes a frequent charge to 100% better, while the latter has a higher energy density and the preferred choice for the longest range and the highest performance is.

Both variants have the same payload capacity of £ 2,000, and their tow will be similar but not identical. The models of the extended range are preferred by those who carry over longer distances, and in Terra pickup it will be a direct rival of the upcoming RAM 1500 Ramcharger. There may also be a larger (and still unused) market for pick -up in the area of extended areas, which could explain why RAM will offer the full electrical 1500 Rev. and only the range extender.

The range extender has combustion engine and not the battery.

Keogh confirmed that “over 50%” of all early Scout reservations apply to Range extensions, while 70% are SUV body for traveling. He also found that 85% of Scout’s supply chain are localized in the USA, which means that the manufacturer is not very dependent on foreign imports, and its vehicles qualify for the full EV tax credit of $ 7,500 .

However, this tempting EV incentive can be eliminated much earlier than in the fourth quarter of 2027, intends to start the production of the traveler and terra. These trucks are triggered from a new factory of 2 billion US dollars in South Carolina, which has a planned annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles. Scout also wants to bypass the traditional dealer model and sell vehicles directly to customers, but it seems that every time a company indicates this announcement, the dealers want to make them change their opinion in court.
