Sean Payton could add this type of player to Broncos’ offensive

During his time at the New Orleans Saints – and during the earlier stops with other NFL teams – Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton had what he describes as “Joker” on his offensive.

After completing the team’s 2024 season, Payton was asked if he had a “joker” with the Broncos, and if not, will he add one this off -season?

“Fair question,” said Payton on January 15th. “I know how much it can help. Only when you don’t have you (you notice). I’ve said that before – early as a trainer, when you are training and your players have, I remember the selection of Reggie Bush and the owner who asked me: “Well, we already have deut mcallister”, who was a really good run. I said: ‘Mr. Benson – The late Mr. Benson – This Running Back is different. He can do these things. ‘We talked about it. It was a good question, but that was the first exposure at this level for me as head coach.

“We had Tiki Barber when I was with the Giants, he was a joker player. Jeremy Shockey was a joker player. Jason Witten was a joker player at the beginning of his career. Then we had Shockey and then Jimmy Graham and then Darren Sproles, then (Alvin) Kamara, then … I didn’t really appreciate it back then, but in this route we went through a distance of 15 or 16 seasons with real, real High-end offices that may not have had a recipient came to one Pro Bowl, but these other places.

“I think in our league when you look around and refer … just take some of the top teams. You will always remember (Travis) Kelce with the chiefs. I don’t know that sometimes they will remember the recipients. Maybe through this super bowl run, maybe like that. Do you think we have some candidates? Yes. This inner triangle of the attack of a defense is really important. “

Jaleel McLaughlin may be what the Broncos currently have for a “joker”, a diverse player who can stand in several places and have an impact as a recipient, but he is not at the level of the other players who mentioned Payton . Denver could add one during the NFL design this spring, perhaps with a dynamic response or a tight end like Tyler Warren from Penn State.

The Broncos have to add more juice to the offensive in 2025, so that the young quarterback BO nothing with playmakers in season. Perhaps a “joker” will be added to the squad this spring.
