Severance Season 2: Release Date, Plot and Cast

Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Severance returns for a second season this month.

The show’s first season, executive produced and partly directed by Ben Stiller, aired in 2022 and has since received a 97 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating and been nominated for 14 Emmy Awards.

The show is about a group of people who decide to undergo surgery to “separate” their personal memories from those of their work lives.

As a result, when they go to work at Lumon Industries, they remember nothing about their personal lives – not where they live, whether they are married or not, or whether they know their colleagues outside of work.

Even outside of work, they don’t remember what they do or who they do it with.

The first season focuses on Mark Scout, played by Adam Scott (Parks and Recreations).

In the first episode, a man approaches Mark outside of work and claims to be his colleague. He tells him that nothing is as it seems at Lumon Industries, and afterward, both Mark’s innie (at the office) and outie (outside of work) struggle with the mystery of the separate memories.

So where does the new season start and when will it be released?

The first episode of the ten-part season premieres worldwide on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 17th.

Apple will then release one episode per week on Fridays until the season finale on March 21st.

What will the second season be about?

Warning: Spoilers for the first season.

At the end of the first season, Mark and his team hatch a plan to activate their Innie memories on the outside. After a few moments in their personal lives, the plan is stopped and they return to their outie states.

However, this doesn’t happen before Mark makes the explosive connection that his therapist at the office is his outtie’s late wife, Gemma.

In the second season, Mark and his work friends face the consequences of a disruption in the severance pay freeze and the worrying realization that Ms. Casey/Gemma may be a permanent employee.

In an interview with SFX, showrunner Dan Erickson said that the Egan family will be a strong focus in the new season, after it was revealed in the first season that Mark’s closest associate Helly is the daughter of Lumon CEO Jame Eagan.

“We will see some of their plans and machinations come to fruition or are about to come to fruition,” he said.

Who is in the cast of Severance season 2?

All of the main characters from the first season are back, including Britt Lower as Helly, Tramell Tillman as security guard Milchick, Zach Cherry as Dylan, Jen Tullock as Mark’s sister Devon, Dichen Lachman as Gemma/Ms. Casey, John Turturro as Irving and Patricia Arquette as Mrs. Cobel.

Teenager Sarah Bock has been named as a new series regular and her character is teased in the trailer.

Will there be a third season?

In an interview with Collider, Stiller confirmed that they are working on the third season.

“You have a responsibility to the audience to achieve something with it,” he said of the plot.

“It should last as long as the story goes, and that’s something we have an idea of and are working towards as we begin work on Season 3.”
