Severance’s Adam Scott teases Mark’s personal struggle in Season 2

Office worker Mark, who was “disconnected” to maintain a work-life balance, began to question the sterile life in which he worked and lived as he saw the same three faces every day and sat in an office cubicle, as part of the ambiguous “macro data refinement” (MDR).

Season 1 ended with Mark’s “Innie” temporarily breaking out of his “Outies” spirit and discovering that his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman), whom he thought was dead, was actually alive and someone he referred to as “Ms Casey.” knows Lumon’s walls.

With his world now shattered and his time as an outie now over, Mark must deal with the fallout from MDR’s coup against the company as we pick up right where we left off in Season 2.

I speak exclusively to RadioTimes.com, Actor Scott teased that the trouble is just beginning for the Innies trapped within Lumon’s walls.

“Season 1 saw Innie Mark gradually become disillusioned with Lumon, with this place that he believes in with all his heart, his entire identity is anchored in this place, and Lumon, with Kier and Ms. Cobel, know She, who is like a mother figure to him,” he explained.

“He loves this place and that’s all he knows, and so we watch him gradually become disillusioned.”

“At the end of the season he thought he had reached the limit of his disillusionment with this place, but then he finds this explosive information in his outie sister’s house, and I think that blows the doors off anything he ever thought.” could have happened, how corrupt a company or person could be. I don’t think his mind ever went there.”

Scott continued, “So we start the season with Innie Mark having this information and how that affects him at MDR, whether he can take that information and pass it on to his outie and how he would even try to do that.”

He teased: “Who knows, but that’s where we start. That’s where the season starts.”

While the cast is clear about what to expect from the upcoming second season, which has already been three years in the making, one thing that will certainly be addressed is Innie Mark’s growing affection for her colleague Helly (Britt Lower). As viewers have learned, she is actually the daughter of Lumon CEO Jame Eagan.

Helly, a descendant of the mysterious founder Kier Eagan, “separated” herself to prove that the system works and holds a prominent position within Lumon. But according to the severance pay rules, even their innie doesn’t know about it, as workers are offered limited information about their lives in the outside world so they can focus on their work.

Through her close connection to Mark, she was one of the pioneers of the MDR coup, helping Mark, Irving (John Turturro) and Dylan (Zach Cherry) in their efforts to communicate with their outies.

Before the mission, she stole a kiss from Mark – which could pose a further complication for him, knowing that his outie wife Gemma could still be alive.

“This is really complicated,” Scott said, remaining silent about what lies ahead for the two of them.

“That’s kind of the way the show…I think it’s alive in terms of that tension,” he added. “I think the tension of that first season, where we saw that relationship grow and where these innies really grew into people, was almost too adult.

“You could say that in the first season they’re a bit like children, and we said that in the second season it’s like they turn into teenagers or just start to test the boundaries of their emotional connections to each other build up.

“Those two aspects, Mark’s outie and Mark’s innie, are really at odds with each other in Season 2.”
