The team of the Premier League took the lead through Erling Haaland before Kylian Mbappe extensively. Haaland scored again with 10 minutes, but very late goals by Brahim Diaz and Jew Bellingham provided a victory for Los Blancos.

As for Shears, Bellingham’s winning goal means that City has no hope of receiving what is needed for progress.

With a 2-2 draw there would still be hope, but it would be an absolute miracle if Real Madrid would not go through. Manchester City’s trust has to be completely destroyed. It’s almost finished, not quite, but almost.

Rooney was of the opinion that it was naivety from the city that made it possible for Real Madrid to achieve these decisive two goals at the end of the game.

I think there was a lot of naivety from Manchester City – especially later in the game. If you are 2-1 against Real Madrid with a game in Bernabeu, you have to say: “Let’s be reasonable”, let you have the ball reset in your half.

Rooney also mentioned that Carlo Ancelotti had guided well in view of a defense crisis.

The players looked around each other tonight, almost with a lack of belief, and I think that’s a worry for Guardiola. Real Madrid came here without one of her back four and I don’t think we talked about Carlo Ancelotti about it.
