Shelby reveals new 810 PS GT350 and GT350R with plans to return to the race

Today Shelby American presented the GT350 and GT350R Mustangs of the next generation at Barrett-Jackson’s 2025 auction in Arizona and announced plans to return to the Racing for the 2026 season. The new cars have been celebrating 60 years since the original GT350R GT350 in history.

The combined packages take the new Shelby Mustang GT350 and GT350R much further than Fords GT350, which completes production in 2020. An aggressive appearance with more aero and ventilation indicates the performance potential inside. Shelby will offer up to 810 hp by screwing a whipple supercharger onto the 5.0-liter V8, which even brings the last factory GT500 far behind-this is not entirely on the current super snake that is in Shelby’s current line -up.

Similarly, the GT350 arrives with an available manual transmission, classic Shelby mode or an optional automatic. Skipping the blower in favor of an available 480 PS V8-V8 could be historically more precise, but appears against Carroll Shelby’s pioneering perspective.

A new era in Shelby begins in 2025

“The Shelby GT350 and the Shelby GT350R are back for 2025,” said Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American. “Just as Carroll Shelby was introduced in 1965, this sports car on the street is exciting and competitive on the road.”

The pricing begins at $ 109,999 for the charged variant, which is also delivered with a guarantee of three years/36,000 miles. The lack of the flat-plane crank of the previous GT350 may make some fans disappointed, but an additional power of 284 hp should more than compensate for the difference. And critically, the GT350 promises a suspension that does not sacrifice road comfort for performance in order to better meet potential buyers who want to enjoy the new Shelby regularly.

The GT350R now focuses more on the performance of the route and remains street legally. The charged V8 now expresses more than 830 hp and is only combined with a six-speed manual transmission. The specific treats include Alcon brakes, JRI remote control damper and drops, carbon floors, additional aero components, racing seats and an integrated roller cage. The paintings available include a gold, silver and black painting program, the blue and white cultural heritage package or a simple white with Ratters.

“While the Shelby GT350 Street Car is civilized for a daily commuting, the Shelby GT350R was built for the serious weekend distance warrior,” added Vince La Violette, Vice President of Operations and Senior Designer at Shelby American. “In order to implement the character of the 1965 competition model, our focus was on lighting the car, sharpening the performance and keeping it cool on road traffic.”

A return to the race in action

As radical as the new GT350 and R sound, the biggest take away from the Barrett-Jackson stage, Shelby’s plans included returning to the race. In cooperation with Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports, the GT350R package will be contributed to the construction of Trans on racing car in cooperation with the legendary Copo Camaro from Chevrolet. This new partnership aims to produce no specific racing drivers for the 2026 season that are not legal to drive on the street. And a development engineer from Turn Key, who worked on the new GT350R, even plans to enter a car in the series, a solid vote of trust in the product.

Of course, the decision to support a competitive car on the road must on the streets brings the view that Shelby starts instead with a Ford Mustang GTD. So far, the pricing for the GT350R and the complete racing car has been under lock and key, but it is unlikely that the exclusive street version of the Mustang GT3, which is currently driving worldwide in IMSA and WEC, will drive the starting sticker of 325,000 US dollars worldwide.

As in 1965, Shelby plans to build only 562 examples of the new cars, of which only 36 will be available with the GT350R package. This year Shelby won the FIA Sports Car World Championship before taking over the first two transs at the championships in 1966 and 1967. Hopefully this next chapter for Shelby American can continue to build on this story, which deals with the past, but with an eye focus on the future of rough, competitive automotive development.
