Sherrone Moore will turn around Michigan

Less than a year after winning the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Michigan Wolverines find themselves 6-5 and outside the 12-team playoff slate heading to Columbus to face the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes.

Despite the less-than-ideal season, Michigan legend Charles Woodson remains confident in first-year head coach Sherrone Moore making his case in “The Triple Option.” “Taking over a team that lost 18 of its 22 starters to the NFL, either through the draft or in some form – that was always going to be a difficult task for him, regardless of the circumstances. So you have to give in.” “I’ll give him a chance,” Woodson said.

Woodson also highlighted Moore’s recruiting abilities, pointing to Michigan’s recent win in landing the top quarterback recruit in the country. “Give him a chance to be a recruiter as a head coach. We just got a big win with the number one quarterback,” Woodson added. Quarterback play has been a big theme for the Wolverines this season, with three different players starting under center. But the future looks bright after top recruit Bryce Underwood switched his commitment from LSU to Michigan over the weekend.

Heading into the game, the Buckeyes are 21-point favorites. However, in one of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports, the favorite doesn’t always win. “This game is different. My junior year we probably shouldn’t have won, but we found a way. They came to our house and did it. You can’t take them lightly,” said former Buckeye and national champion AJ Hawk .

How serious is this game? Hawk and Woodson, who won a Super Bowl together as members of the Green Bay Packers, agree that defeating Ohio – or “The Team Up North” – equates to a championship victory. “If you win a Super Bowl, you’re a world champion. But the older I get, the harder it is to categorize them,” Hawk admitted.

The 119th edition of The Game begins this Saturday at 12pm ET.
