Shooting in Indiana’s supermarket leaves 3 dead, 2 officers injured

A shooter who opened fire in a supermarket of Elkhart, Indiana, on Monday evening, is dead after killing two people and injured two police officers.

The police from Elkhart said Fox News Digital that the officers reacted to Martin’s supermarket at the E. Jackson Boulevard for reports about a shootout around 5:30 p.m.

When the officers and emergency services arrived, two people were found in the supermarket who suffered from gunshot wounds. The police said the two victims were declared dead at the scene.

The officers then organized themselves with a third person with shots, from which it was assumed that they are the suspect who was ultimately shot, the police said.

Two officials suffered gunshot wounds during the encounter and were taken to a regional hospital in which they were listed in stable state.

“It is a sad day in Elkhart,” said Jessica Mcbrier, public information officer of the Elkhart Police Department. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people affected.”

Mcbrier also said that the community has no further threat.

The public prosecutor’s murder unit derives the investigation.

Elkhart is about 20 miles east of South Bend – the home of the University of Notre Dame in North Indiana.
