Shreyas Iyer will be “injured”: Sunil Gavascar Warn

Shreyas Iyer, the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, will be back in the Eden Garden – this time as Punjab King’s skipper for an IPL 2025 -match on Saturday. Iyer was instrumental in leading KKR to his third IPL title in 2024. Even after this title, Iyer was not retained. After the decision by KKR, Iyer said: “Yes, obviously disappointed, because if you don’t have a specific line of communication and if you get to know things a week before the retention date, I obviously had to be missing something there. So I had to take a call. Whatever is written.

Sunil Gavascar, former Indian captain, explained how ‘enthusiastic’ Iyer would be when he faces KKR as a PBKS captain on Saturday.

“He is lit. And if he had been, I was out of shape if they hadn’t done it well, you could understand. But the captain of a winning team who was not held back will hurt. No question, it will hurt. Now he has much more, much more about PBKs.

KKR had lost in the first leg of her play in IPL against PBKs when they could not follow 112 to beat one of the most embarrassing losses in the history of the tournament.

However, the former Australian captain Michael Clarke supported KKR to celebrate a comeback. So far, the defending champions have only four out of eight games.

“No, I don’t think you will do it. I think that the game for KKR will stay in the memory and you won’t want to talk about it again, but I think it will be a beauty. Let’s see what kind of pitch we get. I think both teams really have to win.

“These two were not great this season and they still have the chance that they can turn things around. I think KKR is one of these teams like Mumbai. When they play a role, they are so destructive.”
