Sixth person charged with murder of man shot dead in Peckham

A sixth person has been charged in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old man in Peckham.

Jesse Lloyd-Smith was shot in East Surrey Grove just before 5pm on July 10 and died in hospital the following day.

A 19-year-old was charged yesterday (November 28) and will appear at Willesden Magistrates Court today (November 29).

A 17-year-old boy was previously charged with murder on August 2, while four other people were charged with perverting the course of justice.

His relatives called on those “sitting on the truth” to finally break their silence and bring him justice more than four months later.

Jesse’s sister Chaise and godmother Sam said, “It has been over four months without Jesse and we believe there are still people in this community who are sitting on the truth.”

“Now is the time to move forward.

“Our family continues to mourn the loss of Jesse and we ask for your help to give us answers.

“If you know or remember anything from the evening of July 10, no matter how insignificant the information may seem, please contact police or Crimestoppers.”

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our team remains committed to ensuring justice and we need the public’s help to do this.”

“I am grateful to everyone who has come forward so far, but would urge anyone with information – no matter how insignificant you think it is – to get in touch as it could prove crucial.”

“We believe the answers to this shooting lie in the Peckham community and while I recognize it may be difficult, now is the time to do the right thing.”

“Anyone who does not wish to comment directly can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously.”
