Sky Sports were forced to abandon the game following Rodrigo Bentancur’s serious injury when the Spurs star landed on his head

TOTTENHAM star Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a serious injury against Liverpool and had to be substituted.

The midfielder landed awkwardly after challenging the ball in the air following a corner.

Bentancur missed the ball as he dived low to reach it and appeared to injure his right arm as it reached the turf.

He remained rooted to the spot where he had fallen, which set off alarms among the other players.

Stars from both teams immediately sent physiotherapists and medical staff to the pitch to look after Bentancur.

He was treated for about seven minutes before being taken away on a stretcher.

This forced Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou to make an early change as Brennan Johnson came on for the struggling star.

Tottenham have been hit by an injury crisis in recent weeks and fielded several young players against Liverpool, including Archie Gray again at centre-back.

There was also a debut for Antonin Kinsky, who signed from Slavia Prague just this week.

Bentancur, 27, recently returned from a lengthy ban after being found guilty of a racist insult towards teammate Son Heung-min.
