SNAP recipients in 22 counties will be given an extended period of time to request replacement food following the storm

People living in certain Oregon counties who lost food purchased through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the November 19-20, 2024 severe weather have 30 days to request replacement benefits from the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS ) to apply. .

Households living in the following counties now have until December 18, 2024 to apply for replacement food benefits:

  • Benton
  • Clackamas
  • Clatsop
  • Coo
  • Deschutet
  • Douglas
  • Jackson
  • Jefferson
  • Josephine
  • Klamath
  • lake
  • roadway
  • Lincoln
  • Linn
  • Mishap
  • Marion
  • Multnomah
  • Polk
  • Tillamook
  • Umatilla
  • Washington
  • Yamhill

ODHS received federal approval to waive the usual 10-day application period for replacement benefits to assist people affected by the strong winds and heavy rains that caused power outages in more than 25,000 homes. Households living outside of the counties listed above must follow the usual process and apply for replacement benefits within 10 days of the loss.

Anyone who has thrown away food purchased through SNAP that was destroyed in a disaster can apply for compensation for the cost of the lost food. Applicants should be prepared to pay the total cost of the lost food and may be required to provide proof of the event that caused the food to be destroyed if they do not reside in one of the approved counties.

Once approved, the replacement benefits will be added to the household’s existing Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. The maximum replacement amount is equal to the cost of the lost food and cannot exceed the household’s normal monthly SNAP benefit.
